Debian - the operating system, consisting of both free software and open source code, and from closed components. Currently, Debian GNU/Linux - one of the most popular and important distributions of Linux, in primary forms had a significant impact on the development of this type of operating system as a whole. There are also projects on other nuclei: Debian GNU/Hurd, Debian GNU/kNetBSD and Debian GNU/kFreeBSD. Debian can be used as an operating system for servers and workstations. Debian 6.0.0 released February 6, 2011. The issue includes a number of important changes.

Debian is the largest among all distributions package store - ready to use programs - and even if not by their number, then the number of supported architectures: from ARM, used in embedded devices, the most popular x86 and PowerPC, the new 64-bit AMD, and ending with IBM S/390, used in mainframes. To work with a repository developed various means, the most popular of which - Advanced Packaging Tool (APT).

Debian was the basis of a number of distributions (100, based on Debian). The most famous of them - Adamantix, Bioknoppix, Dreamlinux, Clusterix, Gnoppix, Knoppix, Ubuntu, Libranet, Linspire, MEPIS, Xandros Desktop OS, and Maemo.

Major changes.

Infrastructure Debian:
- Backports.org is now part of the main project (backports.debian.org);
- Removed architecture arm, added (with reservations) architecture kfreebsd-i386 and kfreebsd-amd64.

The structure of the OS:
- Redesigned installer;
- Dash is now installed by default and is optional;
- Use the new loader GRUB 2, the old GRUB is available in the package grub-legacy;
- Loading accelerated by insserv and parallel running of services on the basis of their relationships;
- Added support for dpkg in compression xz, the optimization to accelerate the work with the database and made otvyazka from perl.

- Linux 2.6.32 kernel with support for ext4 and KMS;
- GNOME 2.30 with some parts of GNOME 2.32;

Google Chrome OS Linux Beta



Google Chrome OS is a Linux operating system, based on Ubuntu and designed by Google to work exclusively with web applications. Google announced the operating system on July 7, 2009 and made it an open source project, called Chromium OS, that November.

Unlike Chromium OS, which can be compiled from the downloaded source code, Chrome OS will only ship on specific hardware from Google's manufacturing partners. The user interface takes a minimalist approach, resembling that of the Chrome web browser. Because Google Chrome OS is aimed at users who spend most of their computer time on the Internet, the only application on the device will be a browser incorporating a media player.

The expected launch date for retail hardware featuring Chrome OS has slipped since Google first announced the operating system: from late 2010 to early 2011 to, by some reports, mid-2011.

Install:

- Download the iso file and burn it into CD-R.
- Boot the computer from it and when Chrome OS Linux is loaded, click Live Installer on the desktop.
- Follow the instructions.

Ubuntu Media Center & Server OS (Base on 10.10/32bit)



This is a customized version of Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat. It contains all of the necessary software and tools required for running a media center & media server.

I created this distro to incorperate XBMC, a great media center application ideal for any cinema setup or for everyday use on any capable hardware. The standalone XBMC OS available from the official website works well with wired (LAN) systems but doesn't allow for easy configuration of a wireless Media Center or to adjust/setup a network/ network device. This makes it difficult to use on a device which relies on a WiFi connection so I decided to make a Ubuntu based distro with easily configurable apps pre-installed.

Ubuntu is arguably the most user friendly linux distro available to date. It may not be the lightest OS in terms of footprint but does allow for quick and easy configuration of networks & the sharing of media, whilst providing proven reliability & versatility. I also wanted to be able to run a uPnP media server capable of streaming media to devices such as the Playstation 3, XBOX 360 & other capable devices. For this I've included MediaTomb which is very easy to setup & manage.

Ubuntu_MCS 10.10 Is completely portable in live mode via USB/DVD or it can be fully installed like any other OS.

The iso is just 941MB so even with a 2GB USB stick you can have a fully fledged portable OS and still have room to install additional drivers, store media files & edit/save documents. Just be sure to make the largest persistence file you can when creating the bootable USB or DVD.

[*] To make a live DVD just burn with your favorite software making sure that it can create a bootable disk.
[*] To make a bootable USB drive download unetbootin/li li for windows or choose "create a startup disk" from the app menu in any ubuntu based linux live cd or installation. For full instructions on creating a bootable USB device visit pendrivelinux . However, Your hardware must support booting from USB.
[*] To boot from USB: Enter BIOS configuration at Post screen (usually ESC or a function key such as F2, F10 or F12) & select the connected USB device as the primary boot device.

Important Notices

1)
[*] Slow interface: Certain graphics drivers (nVidia, ATI/AMD) cannot be included in the distribution. This results in slow animation of the dock/video playback as only basic drivers are being utilised.
[*] To remedy this please install the latest drivers for your hardware. You can also increase performance by closing the dock (right click dock, click cairo and quit) then restarting it by clicking Application Menu > Accessories > Cairo-Dock (no openGL).

Intel based graphics should allow desktop effects without additional drivers.

2) To make sure you have the latest drivers please navigate to "Applications menu > Administration > Additional Drivers". Then activate the appropriate driver. A working internet connection is required to download the drivers.
